A few words about me..
I am Kelly and I love travelling overseas, as most of you know :)
Occasionally, I volunteer in remoted communities across the globe and help them according to their needs - usually for things we take for granted back home (water, housing, education etc.). and empower mostly women n kids in these societies.
I am also travelling slow to meet the local cultures, interact and understand the world better. I strongly believe volunteerism is a journey to ourself through others, the more you give the more you receive and you are able then to take back home to improve your personal relationships and community issues.
The Project this year:
I am in Guatemala in Central America right now,
heading to the Lake Atitlan and the 12 Mayan culture villages in the region
to teach English to the kids as a volunteer for some time!
What they still lack is the school materials to start the year! Can you help please?!
Why education this time?
I believe in education as a long-term investment to tackle poverty. Education creates an infrastructure for future economic development that will, one day, pay back these efforts to the communities where these children grew up...
Why English?
Tourism is growing rapidly in Central America and Santiago Atitlan is surrounded by several touristic villages. The students are mostly indigenous, hence their level of Spanish is not high and their access to the job market is difficult. By teaching them English, we help these children getting a job in the near future.
The school - organization:
One, two…tree! is a non-profit organization working on education in Latin America. We introduce English classes for underprivileged children in local non-profits and public schools and also organize funding campaigns to promote specific educational projects.
Where your money will go:
400 euros to support specific needs for school materials (notebooks and stationary kits).
Any more money to offered by you will be spent to cover more materials for more students!
What to expect:
- A photo from the kids supported to each one of you
- A lot of stories to tell and videos when I am back
Thank you in advance and a big Christmas Guatemalan Hug!
More about this part of my trip here:
Stay tuned :)
